So my sister-in-law posted 6 things that are quirky about here. She did not tag anyone but she said she is leaving it open to whoever wants to follow suit. So I am following (I really like stealing other people's blog ideas) and here are my 6 quirky things:
1. I really really like cottage cheese and eat it like a dip with about anything. That includes chips, crackers, carrots, cucumber and whatever else sounds good at the time.
2. I hate fluffy pillows. It is very hard for me to sleep at a hotel or anywhere else without my pillow that I have owned since childhood. It is so flat you can fold it in half and it will stay like that.
3. People say I usually do not use contractions when I talk. I think I do sometimes but then there are a lot of times when I do not. Apparently I also have an accent or something else strange about the way I talk, one person once asked if I was from Russia!
4.I do not like breakfast food all that much (many people already know this). I would rather eat lunch or dinner than breakfast.
5. My mom, brother and I all have the same birthday (and my brother and I are not twins). I am not sure if that is quirky, but it sure is cool. And i was born at 6:21 in the a.m. and James was born at 6:21 at night.
6. I like to take pictures of my car odometer when it reaches monumental milages. For instance I have for 50,000 and one for 75,000. I think I have one for 80,000 but I will definitely have one at 100,000. I might even throw my car a party then.
Ok, now I invite anyone to post about their quirky things!

Husband Appreciation Part II
As soon as I saw this recipe for Honey Buns in my Martha Stewart Living magazine, I knew it was time for husband appreciation part two. Nelson would eat breakfast for every meal of the day if he could. Me, on the other hand, would eat lunch or dinner for every meal of the day if I could. So that naturally causes a little bit of a dilemma at times. Usually this is resolved by a visit to First Watch where I can order lunch and he can order breakfast. But today I thought I would surprise him with a breakfast for dinner (it's not like we never have breakfast for dinner but I can probably count on one hand the number of times we have in our three years of marriage). So I did some baking this afternoon and here is how it all went:

Kneading the dough (thank goodness for a stand mixer otherwise I would have been kneading for a long time)

Dough rolled out and filling is spread on

Rolled up

Cut into individual rolls and rising again

Cooked and ready to eat!

Nelson's dinner (complete with Vitamin D milk-his favorite)

It's beginning to seem like fall...
Well today's high was about 65 which makes it a pretty awesome fall type day. Nelson and I enjoyed the weather by going for a run and then had some classic fall food of grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. It was delicious. I did not take these pictures nor did I put a sprig of green on the top of our soup, but other than that, this is just like what we had for dinner :)
Then to top off the evening making it more fall-like, we can hear the sound of the highschool football teaming playing a few blocks away. It is just an all around great evening!

Flooding in the Lou!

It rained and rained here in the Lou last night and this morning. It really was a torrential down pour. My grandfather said, according to his rain gauge, that it was over four inches in a not very long period of time. So lots of areas were flooded. This morning on our way to church, we had to take a bunch of different routes to get past where the road was closed due to flooding. We saw lots of stranded vehicles and hit a few spots that were getting pretty full of water (one area we drove through this morning is now closed off because it is too flooded). On our way back, we saw this poor car. Thankfully no one was in it but it really stinks for whoever owned it!

vacation!
Last week we went to Door County, WI with my family for vacation. It was great to be with James and Steph since we do not get to see them on a regular basis. We have been going there as a family for as long as we have been alive and my mom went as a child too, so there are lots of memories associated with being there. We did lots of relaxing, hanging out, swimming (Nelson and I braved the somewhat chilly Lake Michigan and enjoyed some waves that were big enough to body surf), and the highlight of the trip was mopeding. I am not sure what makes it this so fun but it is just so great. Well, here are some of the pics from the wonderful time!
