wanted: a lesson in swaddling

you know you are not good at swaddling when you find your child like this after his nap:


(for those who may not know- the baby's arms and legs are supposed to be inside the swaddler. this is even the "dummie proof" kind of swaddler)

space bags!

today Nelson got me these great things for organizing my clothes- they are called "space bags" and they are great. if you have ever found yourself watching infomercials, you may have found yourself learning about the awesomeness of these bags. you put your big pile of clothes in, suction the air out, and you are left with a much smaller pile of clothes (in the pictures the bags all turned out flat- mine did not but that is probably because i did not try that hard to fold my clothes before putting them in. sometimes you only have so much energy). i am not sure if these pictures do it justice, but here is my own advertisement for the space bags:

there is this great cupcake store here in st. louis- the cupcakery. while james and steph were here, we introduced them to it and ate some of their delicious cupcakes. good thing they got a few extras so we can enjoy them over the next few days! i would definitely recommend going there if you live close by!

Tripp goes to Walgreens

I know he is only two weeks old but I figured it is never too early to introduce Tripp to the wonderful store called Walgreens. I really love that spot and thought he should get to experience it. I thought it might be weird to take a picture of us while we were there so I just took a pic of him getting ready to go! Look at how open his eyes are-he is so excited!

Tripp's first monogram

A package arrived a few minutes ago addressed to Tripp. But since he is asleep, I figured I should probably open it for him. So I did and I cried a little when I saw what was inside. Silly I know, but I think I just got overwhelmed at his name, at what it means to us and how I want him to grow up and be like his dad and grandfather. They are godly men with hearts that love the Lord and want to serve Him. What else could I want for my own child?

we have been debating since we moved into our house if we would ever want a TV upstairs. We always said no because we have one downstairs and that is more of our hang out/family room area. however, since Tripp was born, my world has officially shrunk to the size of our living room. so Nelson decided it was time for me to be able to watch the Today show again in the morning and Wheel of Fortune at night (and the Gilmore girls in between). He went out yesterday, after finding an excellent deal, and got me a TV and DVD player for upstairs. We still need to find a stand that actually matches and will hide the cords, etc. But I must say, after watching the Today show this morning while Tripp was sleeping was quite a treat. Thanks Nelson!!

Happy Mother's Day

I was totally planning on getting a picture with my mom, me and little Tripp but of course I totally forgot. I guess there are only so many things that I can remember these days! Instead I will just post a pic of Tripp since he is the reason I get to celebrate Mother's day this year!

So eventually I will get better at posting more frequently but for now I am using most of our free time to sleep and catch up on a few shows with Nelson (it is very important to know what Jack Bauer is up to these days). But here are a few for now!

Meet Tripp

So today at 5:26 p.m., Nelson Bell Somerville, III entered the world. He is 8 lbs 12 oz, 21 1/4 inches long and of course has dimples! We are going to call him Tripp (so now you can make the switch from Stanley :) ). More pics to come later!

a few more nursery updates

we got the dresser yesterday from my folks- it was my grandfathers when he was a boy, then my mom's, then my brother's and mine, and now it will be our little guy's. my mom repainted it for us and delivered it yesterday. it was so fun to put tiny little clothes in there yesterday. i am going to hang some picture frames over the dresser, but i messed up printing one of the things for the inside of the frames yesterday so i have to get some more paper tomorrow then i will hang those. now we just need the baby!

the real reason we got a Sam's membership

About 4 or 5 months ago we decided to get a Sam's membership. We have enjoyed getting discounts on normal grocery items but tonight we decided it was time to break down and make the purchase that prompted us to get the membership in the first place-diapers. It was actually kinda fun! Now if only the little guy who will be wearing these would hurry up and get here....
