Cherry Pie!

Tonight I made a cherry pie! I do not love fruit in my dessert so I am considering this just a tasty evening snack. But I am sure Nelson will be very excited. Here it is!

They Moved the Port-o-Potty (but still dug up our front yard)

So, about the port-o-potty that was in our yard. Well, Nelson called the public works department, they said to call the county. So he called the county, they said to call the water company. So he called the water company-they connected him to customer service. So he told customer service how we were not happy that there was a port-o-potty in our yard and pipes in our garden. The lady said she would let the appropriate person know of our great dissatisfaction about the situation. We did not have high hopes that anything would happen. A few days later though, we came home from work and the port-o-potty was gone! It is now on the street on the opposite corner! We were very excited. The only bummer is that they had to dig a big trench in our yard and the back hoe (or whatever type of digging up things equipment it is) is right in front of our house. But at least the port-o-potty is gone!

Don't worry, our flowers are still alive

After much concern that our rose bushes were either dead or turning into another kinda of plant (the leaves were turning red like a japenese maple) we started to look around at other people's rose bushes and realized theirs looked similar. The roses were falling off and the leaves were changing color. So we felt a little better. But then other ones started blooming again, ours did not. But not to worry, this morning I went outside to find that there was a full bloom on one of our bushes and all the other ones have little buds about to open. So all is well, now we just have to remember to keep up on the watering!

Taste O' St. Louis

Tonight we had our friends over for some special tastes of St. Louis. We had some toasted ravioli, Imo's pizza, salad and some delicious gooey butter cake (I can say that because I didn't make it- a non-St. Louisian made it and did a great job!!!). We had a good time sharing the St. Louis traditions with some friends!! All I remembered to take a picture of the was the table and the prizes for the little trivia game.

Nelson's Pile of Polos

So Nelson thought it would be a "fun game" to start a pile of all his polos after he wore them to see how big the pile would get and so that he would wear them all through one time without repeating one (he didn't wear too many blue ones though because they do not match his jeans). Here is the pile from last night when he wore his last one (there were 28 of them!!).

A Port-o-Potty in our Yard

When we came home from work today there was a port o potty in our yard!! I think they are working on the streets/water, but still, did they really have to put that in our yard? And one of their pipes is in our garden. Nelson tried calling the public works but no answer, so then he tried the non-emergency number of the police department but they said call public works. So he will try again in the a.m. to get this resolved. We don't have an easement in our front yard so that property is all ours (except maybe a foot in from the street but the port o potty is clearly in our yard). One of our neighbors even came and knocked on our door to make sure we were aware of it being there. Kinda a silly question seeing how big and obvious it is. But we will see what happens with it tomorrow!

Worlds Colliding

Coldplay meet Guitar Hero. Guitar Hero meet Coldplay. Instant friends, instant fun. That is what we happened at our house tonight after we downloaded some Coldplay songs for Guitar Hero. They only had three to download- Violet Hill, Yellow, and God Put a Smile on Your Face. All very good ones and very fun to play. In fact, Nelson and I played co-op on all three and we got a 509 note streak during one of them! It was awesome. Let's just say that we will be having lots of fun tonight!

New Cow

Ok, I didn't get a new cow but I did get a new Gateway computer that comes in a box with cow print on it! Because I am not as cool as Nelson I could not get a Mac, but I think my Gateway should suffice!

Flip flops, Coldplay and Custard

it just doesn't get much better than that. Today I got two new pairs of flip flops in the mail, we got the new Coldplay CD and we drove around for an hour so we could listen to a new CD. We stopped to get some Jeremiah's custard and got to see two trains and the firetruck and ambulance go out. It was really a great evening. The new CD is awesome, very different from previous CDs but great nonetheless. The flip flops are wonderful, you just can't beat the feeling of new flip flops. And I love getting a new CD and listening to it with Nelson because I always have such strong memories associated to the first time I hear songs so I love that they will be of driving around on a beautiful evening with Nelson!

Happy Father's Day Big Bill!

Since today is Father's Day we had my folks over for a little celebration! We had some sandwhiches, corn salad, chips/pretzels and dessert. It was very tasty and we had a good time hanging out. Here is the cookie cake, I forgot to take a picture of it before I cut it but it is ok because the writing was not that good, I did the border first so I didn't have anywhere to rest my hand while writing and it was pretty shaky looking.


Of course the highlight for my dad was getting his present. He was very good and waited through the meal before opening (he is much like a little kid when it comes to presents, he has a perpetual list that is on the fridge year round just waiting for any holiday that might warrant a gift and he does not like to wait when it comes to opening gifts). My mom, James and Steph, and Nelson and I went in to get him some sweet sunglasses that he has been wanting. According to him they are very cool and will help him to be a better runner. He said his old pair was just no good; in fact, yesterday, he was running with them and he was so mad at them he just took them off and said (in his words) "heck with these!" So it was time for a new pair. Here is what the box claims about these sunglasses (parenthesis mine):

And the new sunglasses were so great and the old ones so bad that he immediately said "heck with them" again and threw them into the trash.

A Special Someone's Birthday!

Today is Ty's 2nd birthday! We had some quality playground time to celebrate. Here are a few pics from the special time!

An Uninvited Guest in our Bed!

Last night, there must have been a spider, or a few spiders, in our bed!! I got eaten alive. I think I am ok because I figured that I would have either died or been really sick by now if it was a poisonous spider but so far I just itch a lot. I just had to take a picture of part of my leg that gotten eaten up the most (these are just a few of the many)! Nelson doesn't have any bites at all- I think because he has hair on his legs so the spiders would have gotten lost and had to work harder to get to the skin. They sure had their way with me though!

Our Flowers and my Crocs!

Not to worry, our flowers are making a comeback! We have been watering faithfully, and they are already blooming again!! It was a close call but they seem to be doing well. My Crocs, however, are not doing so well. I wear them when I am out gardening or working in the yard. Naturally, they get dirty so I always spray them down and leave them out to dry. Well, yesterday I went to put them on and water our flowers but when I put on my left one, I realized it had totally shrunk and gotten misshapen!! I was so sad because it really didn't even fit anymore!! The really funny thing is that Nelson's Target brand Crocs were out next to mine and his did not melt. So there was no benefit at all to getting Croc brand (except that they had cute Mary Jane style ones that are not so clunky looking). So I thought I would give the Croc customer service a call to see if they would replace them for me. I had a big elaborate story planned out but I didn't even have to use it. I told them what happened and they said they would send me a new pair!! It might take a week or so before I get them, but I guess that just means I don't have to do any yard work until they come :) But here are a few pics of my Crocs-it is hard to tell but basically, the left side of where my toes go got all melted down and shrunken!

Random Thoughts

Note to self: In order to keep flowers alive, must water on a regular basis.
I am pretty sure that I have not watered our plants since we planted them a few weeks ago. It has rained some but I was noticing this weekend that that was probably not enough water. Our rose bushes are not doing so well but I am hoping that through some faithful watering, they will make it back. We will see.
Nelson really likes Battlestar Galatica and I have always been a little skeptical of it but I thought I would give it a try. Well, I said I would watch the mini-series that comes before Season 1 and then make my decision after watching it. So we finished it last night and I really like it. It is a little different but it has a really good story line and great characters so I think I will keep watching!!
Today we took my car to the shop to get the brakes checked out. They were making a funny sound and so they needed to get checked out. The man called me and said that he drove it around and didn't hear anything (isn't that how it always goes??) and he asked me to describe the noise to him. So we talked for about 5 minutes and I was using all the words I could think of to describe the sound "grunting," "struggling," "creaking," not "squeking," or "squeling" though. He listened, affirmed me and said he would take it out for a longer drive. He called back later on to tell me he had in fact heard the sound but decided it was more like the sound of bed springs!! I thought that was a great description and was excited that he thought of a crazy way to describe it so I didn't feel so stupid earlier telling him that I didn't know how to describe the sound. So then he proceeded to tell me that in fact nothing was really wrong, that there was just a little build up on the brake pads that could be sanded off. I asked him if I needed to get my brakes replaced, he said "oh no, no need for that." I was really really appreciative because he could have easily said "oh yeah your brakes need to be replaced" and I would have totally believed him and say ok sure replace them. So he just did my oil change and fixed a leak he found somewhere else and we were on our way. So if you live in St. Louis, want to get treated well by a car repair person take your car to Rasch Services on Manchester Rd in Kirkwood, MO. It is family owned, and an all around great spot. You will always be treated right (my family has been going there for years). You won't great treated like you don't know what you are talking about, won't get taken advantage of, and will just have a great all around experience!
Then, after you go to get your car and you are so starving and need to get a delicious hamburger, you should head to Red Robin! Nelson and I just love that spot. I like either a hamburger or the Whiskey River BBQ Chicken Wrap. Also, the french fries are great, big steak fries with delicious seasoning!
Also, today Apple announced the new iPhone. Unfortunately we still have a year left on our cell phone contract but who knows, in a year, we may need to make the switch!!

Z4s are pretty sweet cars. All BMWs are pretty sweet cars. But since we do not have one, we enjoy checking out them out at the auto show.
