Looking forward to May 4th!

Happy Halloween!

Well, I have been looking forward to halloween for a long time now, especially because we have a house and we can have trick or treaters! So last night we went and got lots of candy (only the good kinds like M & Ms, Snickers, Skittles, Kit Kat and Starbursts) and then this afternoon we carved our pumpkin. But I must say, I am a little disappointed, it is about 7:30 and we haven't had many trick or treaters. But we have had some good jokes (for those of you who do not in St. Louis, here in the Lou you are required to tell a joke before you get your candy). Here is the best one of the night-
trick or treater- "Do you want to hear a joke about construction?
emily- "Sure!"
trick or treater- "sorry it is not finished yet"
Well, maybe we will have a few more before the night is over (otherwise we will have lots of candy for ourselves-not necessarily a bad thing). Here are some pics from our pumpkin carving!

more birthday fun!

my folks came over for some more birthday celebration (since it is also my mom's birthday and my brother's-but he is far away in B-ham). we had a few more presents and some cake! it was great! My dad even managed to stay awake for about half the celebration time. I think it was around 9:02 that he finally had to call it a night and head home. That is impressive for him, I guess he was sacrificing for his wife and daughter.

Today has been a great day so far- I was at a research thing all day but I left early so that I would have plenty of time to get home for present opening before we leave for dinner in a little bit. I am feeling a little bit spoiled (but I will not complain- I am like my dad and love to get presents and not afraid to admit it). Here are some of my wonderful gifties from today-

A Fall Wreath

This weekend I have been working on some projects around the house. One was to make a wreath for our front door. We went to Hobby Lobby to get all the necessary ingredients (not sure if ingredients is the right word, but it makes sense in my mind). In true Hobby Lobby style, they were having a 50% off practically everything sale so everything we got for the wreath was half off! It was great! So here is the wreath on our front door!

Warm Fuzzies

I have to say, right now, I am feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Here are the reasons why:

1. It is warm in our house (we turned our heater on)


2. There is chili cooking on the stove


3. I have been getting lots of ideas from my latest Martha Stewart Living Magazine for Thanksgiving (both with the fam and then also when some friends come over)


4. It is almost our birthday (yes, all three of us-my mom, brother and me have the same birthday) (and sorry for the old pic but it was the only one I could find)


5. It is cold outside and the leaves look awesome!

Weekend in the Big D

I got to go to Dallas this weekend for my sister-in-law's baby shower! Nelson stayed here as he had some things to do. So I missed him but had a great time in Dallas. I was excited to give Winsor the diaper bag that I made her. Here are some pics from the weekend!

All in a day's work

So because of the nature of my job, I spend a lot of time in people's homes. I need to clarify also that these are all old people. Because of this combination (being in their home and having clients that are cute and old), they usually feel compelled to give me things or make me food. I have gotten some delicious fruit and even got offered some scrambled eggs (ironic considering my love for breakfast food). For gifts that people have given me, some have been good (a fondue pot that is specifically for me to share with Nelson) and some have been not as good (a block of half eaten, stinky cheese that gave the client a stomach ache). But today's pretty much tops it all. For some reason, my client today thought that I might like this jacket. So she gave it to me. It is awesome (it even has shoulder pads). Check it out! If you are lucky, I might let you borrow it :)

A great trip to mickey d's

Tonight we went to McDonalds to get a little evening snack (you can't be a honey mustard grilled snack wrap). But we ended up with a lot more than just a snack wrap. See, Nelson paid with a five but they gave us change for a twenty so we had $15 extra dollars. So at the next window where you get your food, Nelson told the lady and gave her back the money. She was so shocked and excited that she wanted to give us something else. We really just wanted the snack wrap but she insisted (we had even started driving away and she was yelling out the window for us to come back). So we said we would take a milkshake. Well, we ended up with two milkshakes and they were two of the biggest milkshakes you have ever seen. I took a picture and had to put my nalgene and a glass next to them to give you some comparison. Check them out! It was awesome!

Apple Picking

We went apple picking yesterday with some friends and had a great time. I did not really take any pictures of the time so check out Janet's blog for a better description of the apple picking. We got some delicious apples so when got home, we (yes we because Nelson helped me cut and peel the apples) made an apple crisp. It was delicious! Here it is!

Husband Appreciation Part III

Well, Nelson was not feeling so good today- I think it was because his day started off with a big spider crawling out of his lunch bag when he going to put his sandwich in there. He had to crunch it and it had some sort of egg sack or something like that with it so he had to crunch that too. I think that was a bad omen for his day. So when it came time for dinner, I figured I needed to make something that would make him feel better. Since we already had bacon for the first husband appreciation, and breakfast for dinner for the next, one of the only possibilities left was corn dogs! I really really do not like corn dogs, so much in fact that if I ate one, I would get the heebie-geebies and might even get sick to my stomach. So I made them for him and just had mac 'n cheese for myself (well he had some of that too). I think it helped him to feel better (or at least it made him happy)!
