We had all been talking about wanting to get a haircut so Winsor had the great idea of having Phil's cousin who is a haircutting lady come over to the house to cut all our hair. It was so nice and she did a great job on everyone (some of even thought she was a "miracle worker"-not that anyone needed a miracle for their hair though)!

christmas time

we have had a great time in the Big D! it is so nice to just be able to relax and not feel like we need to be somewhere or do something. it is great! Christmas was wonderful, we just hung out and enjoyed presents, tasty food, and the gift of little Weston! Here are some pics from the day!

We have had a great time in Dallas and got to meet little Weston! It is great to be with him and makes us even more excited to meet our own little guy!

today we had our big ultrasound! we found out we are having a boy! we are really excited and very very thankful for God's protection thus far on our little son. here are a few pics of him!

an awesome day!

this morning, in keeping with all saturday mornings, we went to get a bite to eat for breakfast before starting out day. we love an einstein's bagel so we went there today. I was so excited to see this candy cane bagel that I just had to have it. It was quite tasty and fun to eat and helped to get me into the Christmas spirit!



while we were there, we got a phone call from Nelson's sister that her water had broken! we were so excited to hear that! but selfishly I was really sad that it meant we would not be there for when our first nephew was born. we got updates all day from Nelson's mom which was great to help us feel in the loop! So tonight at 6:12 p.m., little Weston James was born! Mom and baby are doing well and we can't wait to meet this little guy!! Here is a pic of him on his uncle John's blog-

today we braved the very cold wind to put up some lights. we got some sweet LED lights this year because apparently they are very energy efficient and they seem cool so we got them. but I am afraid that haphazard light decorating runs in my family (I wish I could even begin to describe to you my parents' house when my dad does the decorating-basically it looks like he was half-asleep when he decided to decorate and he took one, maybe two strands of lights, dragged them around the bushes and called it a day). So while our lights may not put Snoopy's dog house to shame, they are at least festive. sorry Nelson that I do not have any light decorating skills to bring to the table. you can blame your father-in-law. we did get a nice christmas/wintertime wreath too.

a crazy dinner bite

last weekend when John was here, Nelson and John were reminiscing about some of their favorite childhood dishes. One that came up is called "sofan" (sp!?!). They were not sure if it was made up or maybe their dad brought it back from Korea. But however it originated, I have to admit, it sounded a little crazy to me (and against my taste bud's "can't eat breakfast foods for dinner" rule). But tonight, I thought I would suprise Nelson and give it a try. I always get nervous making things that Nelson had as a child because nothing ever tastes as good as when your mom makes it. But I think it turned out ok. Basically, it is a bacon-egg-rice bowl. You just cook all three of those things and mix them togehter in a bowl, add some soy sauce and you are good to go. It was actually pretty tasty, but I made sure to have a few chocolate covered pretzels immediately following dinner so that my taste buds would not be confused about the time of day.

i was emailing with Winsor today and she had mentioned she made some chocolate covered pretzels. i thought that sounded good so i made some! they need to dry for 24 hours which seems like a long time to me, but who i am i to argue with paula dean? here they are drying!

a baby update :)

for those of you who are interested, i thought i would give a little update on the baby and how he/she is doing! well, i am on my 19th week (starting tomorrow so i am rounding up) and last week I could start to feel some flutters! It is really fun and usually I say "hello" to him/her whenever i feel it (i do say hello outloud sometimes which has caused some confusion at work). According to my book/emails about what I am supposed to be expecting, this week the baby will start to swallow amniotic fluid to keep hydrated. and it says that the fluid tastes like whatever i have been eating so the baby will acquire a taste for what i eat (supposedly). as soon as i learned this, i was quite excited because i decided i will not eat any breakfast foods and eat lots and lots of lunch and dinner foods so that it's taste buds will be set straight. i will also not eat any fruit for dessert so it will not get confused about what dessert is supposed to be. i will also be sure to eat lots of cottage cheese so we can sit down together after a day of work/school and enjoy a snack of cottage cheese and cracked pepper and olive oil triscuits.
besides this new found joy of being able to affect the baby's tastes, i found that this week they are about the size of a large mango! that is fun! here is a link to a mango in case you need a reminder of what it looks like-

and finally, i feel good these days, no more sickness which is quite nice. i think i am starting to show (my boss, a client and nelson are the only people that have noticed so far), but i am still in that awkward "did you have too much for thanksgiving" phase so i will not take any pics until it is more obvious. but i definitely made the switch to maternity pants a while ago because, as my sister-in-law told me, why wear pants with a real waist band when you can wear pants with an elastic waist band? i couldn't agree more. i think i will be really confused when i go back to having a zipper and buttons, it will really slow me down when i am getting dressed!
also, i will not be taking any pics of my bare stomach, sorry people, but that is just not going to be going public.
ok, i think that is the update for now!
and oh yeah- we find out on the 22nd if it is a girl or boy!! i will let you know! we've had lots of guesses for girl and not as many for boy so we will see who is right!

the past few days, well really since the end of last week, Nelson has not been feeling well at all. the past few days have been especially rough with a combination of business at work and complete congestion in the head. so we decided that nothing would make him feel better than some decorating the christmas tree. we thought that we would just use our little fake tree again this year since we will be gone for christmas and a while afterwards. but it was still fun to put out the decorations!! hopefully Nelson will feel better soon too!
