big salad

It is no surprise that I am a fan of a big salad so you can imagine my delight when this past week Winsor introduced us to a new kind of big salad. It is great. You make your regular garden salad (lettuce, carrots, cucumber, tomato, cheese) and then add some grilled steak strips and french fries and top with ranch dressing. It is so good! We had it with her last week and had it again for dinner last night. I could probably eat this everyday!

today Winsor and Weston came to St. Louis and we had a meeting of the cousins. It was awesome. Here is the story of their meeting:

On Nelson's side, we have Nana and Pops.
On my side, we have Nonny and to be determined. My dad is still not sure what he wants to be called. He thinks it should be Big Bill. We think it should be something more endearing. I like Papa or even Papa Bill if he wants to stick with the "Bill" theme. We will see, we still have a while till Tripp starts talking!

thoughts from a mom of a one-month old

Nursing gives me lots of time to think about what being a mom is all about. So I thought I would share some of my thoughts...
-being a mom is probably the hardest thing I have ever done
-being a mom is one of the most rewarding thing I have done
-I never thought I could love a little baby so much
-not being able to do whatever I want whenever I want is a lot harder than I thought I would be
-But not being able to hang out with Nelson as much anymore is way harder than not being able to do my own thing
-I didn't know I could love baby noises so much- there are so many!
-Speaking of noises, I didn't know it was possible for a baby to toot (and poop) so much while eating.
-I could probably just sit at stare at him all day long and not get bored
-It makes me laugh that he sometimes spits up out his nose and doesn't seem at all phased by it (maybe that is part of being a boy- "hey mom, look at me! I can shoot milk out my nose!!")
-I don't like the fact that maternity leave is already a third of the way over
-Both sides of my family are great and have made this transition to motherhood relatively smooth
-Not bathing him regularly means one really stinky baby. I didn't realize spit up milk could smell so bad!
-I am totally biased and I think that my son is the cutest baby in the world
-I feel like I am getting more confident and less overwhelmed (although there is still so much I don't know!!)
-During the first few weeks, I didn't know how it would be possible to have another child. But now I definitely want more!
-I am surprisingly not as tired as I thought I would be for only getting sleep in 3 hour increments (maybe I am just used to how tired I was while being pregnant so this doesn't seem so bad).

I think that is all for now. But in the mean time, enjoy a pic of the little guy!

Tummy Time

Tripp really loves being on his stomach, and he really loves the quilt that Emily made for him. He loves the bright colors and also loves looking at blocks that my mom gave him. He loves being on his stomach so much that he fell asleep that way today. Too bad I can't leave him on his stomach to sleep. He seems so happy that way!

Tripp's one month birthday!!

Today Tripp turned 1 month old! It is crazy to think back about the day he was born and how much he has already changed since then. Today we went to the doctor for his one month check up and he passed with flying colors. The only bad part was that he had to get a hep B shot and I am pretty sure it was harder on me than on him! He cried for only about a minute afterwards so that was great but that minute of crying was one of the worst minutes of my life! I wish he could understand it is for his good, like a lot of painful things, but until then, he will just have to trust me (and I will have to have my mom or mother-in-law come along for moral support for me)!

From this morning when he was snuggling in bed with his Nana

jogging stroller!

we have taken Tripp for some walks in his regular stroller and were afraid that due to the very bumpy sidewalks he might get shaken baby syndrome! so we made the plunge to get a jogging stroller with big wheels. it came in the mail today and tonight we went for a walk (to Walgreens of course). it was such a smooth ride and Tripp enjoyed it so much that he just snoozed the whole time.

Nana's Visit

we have had a great time having Nana (Nelson's mom) here. She has been a big help, and last night we got to go out for the first time, just the two of us, since Tripp was born. Tripp took his second bottle and did a great job. It is such a blessing as it gives us freedom to go out and party (and by party I mean go to Target or Best Buy)!
